Abstract

A large size (approximately 60 x 235 MM) Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) performs the functions of a features display of a copier control console application. The features of the display will be depicted either graphically or through alpha-numerics, by the anodes of the VFD. Various phosphors will be used on the anodes to exhibit a multi-colored display. The glass area directly above the features will be treated to enable that area as a capacitive switch. Upon actuation of this switch by an operator, the feature selected will be highlighted in most cases by a red surround (the surround is also an anode of the VFD). In other cases, switch enablement will cascade elements up or down between the switch locations.

A large size (approximately 60 x 235 MM) Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) performs the functions of a features display of a copier control console application.

The features of the display will be depicted either graphically or through alpha- numerics, by the anodes of the VFD.

Minor variants of this technology can be extended to incorporate the 5 X 7 Dot Alpha-numberic Display, quantity select keys, and also a graphic representation (mimic) of the copier. The advantage is a relatively low cost, extremely operable control console for a copier.
