COPY SET SUPPORTING APPARATUS FOR STAPLING (Con t'd)

The copy set supporting apparatus is utilized to support copy sets being transported through an open space from bins in a sorter to a stapling position and then quickly retracted to permit stapled copy sets to fall by gravity onto a set collecting elevator.

In the drawing, a stapling apparatus 1 is positioned between a copier 2 and an indexable sorter 3 having bin 4 for collating copy sets 5. The apparatus includes a set transport 6 having set clamping jaws 7 movable horizontally to clamp each copy set and carry the same to a stapling position 8 across the open space between the sorter 3 and the stapling apparatus 1. Set support rods 9 are arranged to be driven horizontally in either direction by a cable/drive system 10 in coordination with movement of the set transport 6. As the set transport is driven to the left to engage a copy set, the support rods are likewise driven to the left, as shown.
