Abstract

In office copiers, it is often desirable to automatically be able to feed paper from two paper trays or alternatively, to be able to bypass a single paper feeder to manually feed a copy sheet of different description to the copier. The figure illustrates a stalled roll registration system which may be used for two paper trays or for the manual bypass sheet of a single sheet. In the figure registration roll 10 is driven by a reversable motor by mechanical clutching engagement. Roll 10 when it is rotated counterclockwise, the nip formed between idler roll 14 and driven registration roll 10 will feed a copy sheet inserted in the nip therebetween along the path Y to point X. When roll 10 is rotated clockwise the nip between roll 10 and idler roll 12 will feed paper along the 2 path to the same point X. If the length of the feed path Y is equal to the length of the feed path 2 the registration of sheets fed from both sources at point X will be the same.
