Abstract

The figure shows a flash illumination document imaging system which can be used in either a full frame copying mode or a continuous velocity transport (CVT) mode. The system 10 comprises an integrating illumination cavity 12 whose interior surfaces are coated with a diffusely reflective material. The top surface of cavity 12 comprises a platen 14. The bottom surface includes a lens 16 mounted in an aperture therein. A flash lamp 18 and a tungsten lamp 20 are mounted within the cavity..

In a full frame mode of operation, a document is placed on the surface of platen 14; lamp 18 is energized and an image projected by lens 16 onto a photoreceptor belt 22 moving in the indicated direction. An RI filter 24 is designed to provide uniformity of the exposed image.

In a CVT mode of operation, the document is moved from left to right across the top of the platen surface by a document belt drive (not shown). Tungsten lamp 20 is energized during the CVT mode.
