Abstract

A fixed bin sorter in which deflectors 1 hinged to the bins 2 are normally in retracted position and are extended in sequence by an actuating mechanism to guide sheets into the bins in turn. Each deflector 1 has an operating lever 3 arranged to cooperate with an actuator 4 on the bin above it.

FIXED BIN SORTER WITH HINGED DEFLECTORS (Cont'd)

A fixed bin sorter in which deflectors 1 hinged to the bins 2 are normally in retracted position and are extended in sequence by an actuating mechanism to guide sheets into the bins in turn. Each deflector 1 has an operating lever 3 arranged to cooperate with an actuator 4 on the bin above it.

The bin openings are enlarged during sheet entry by separating the input ends of adjacent bins as one of these is made active. The separating of the input ends operates to extend the deflector of the active bin. In the illustrated form bin opening enlargement is effected by lifting the bin above the active bin and actuator 4 on the upper bin releases the deflector so that it extends (e.g. under spring action) as that bin is,lifted.

In their retracted positions the deflectors may act to hold the sheets traveling past them against the transport belt 5, e.g. by having spring strips-6 attached to them.
