Abstract

In an electrophotographic printing machine, the toner powder image is permanently affixed to the copy sheet by applying heat thereto. This is achieved by a fusing system. The fusing system may employ an internally heated soft fuser roll and a hard steel pressure roll. An air filled diaphragm is energized to apply a force to the pressure roll. The diaphragm fills with air and exerts a force on a load bar until it hits a predetermined stop. The stop screws are electronically set up in manufacturing. The operating range of pressures in the system is from 8.0 to 12.0 psi.

Software within the printing machine receives a signal approximately five seconds after the printing machine start button is energized and continually monitors the switch during each copy run until the machine cycles out. If at any time during a copy run, the switch is not actuated for a period of 3 copies or more, a display is energized to advise the operator of this The operator may now determine whether, in fact, the toner
