Abstract

In an electrophotographic printing machine, sheets of support material are advanced to the transfer station wherein the toner powder image is transferred to the sheet by a sheet feeding apparatus. The sheet feeding apparatus includes feed rolls which are driven in a preferred direction to advance the sheet from the stack thereof. As shown in the drawing, feed roll 10 is coupled removably to drive system 12. The drive system includes a stub shaft 14 having a gear 16 and timing belt pulleys 18 and 20 molded on shaft 22. Stub shaft 24 has timing belt pulleys 26 and 28 molded on shaft 30. Stub shaft 32 has a clutch 34 mounted on shaft 36. Clutch 34 couples the drive system to a motor (not shown). Timing belt pulley 38 is molded to shaft 36. Belt 40 connects pulley 38 with pulley 18. Belt 42 connects pulley 20 with pulley 28. In this way, the motor driving shaft 36 through coupling 34 drives shaft 22 and 30 as well. A spherical hexagon opening 44 in shaft 22 receives the hexagon end 46 of drive roller 10. Similar openings are provided in shaft 30 and 36 to couple their respective drive rollers (not shown) thereto. In this way, drive roll 10 may be readily connected to and disconnected from drive system 12.
