Abstract

A sorter is shown in the figure that uses air to push paper off belts 10 into bins 15. Sheets are held against a series of belt runs 10 upon entering the sorter by conventional means and are transported by belts 10 in the direction of arrows 5. Air nozzles 18 are positioned in spaces between runs of the belts adjacent the entrance to each bin 15. The nozzles are connected to a rotating air valve 16 by pipes 17. A conventional blower delivers air pressure to valve 16 and the valve rotates to select the proper port for sheet deflection.

SORTER WITH AIR SHEET DELIVERY (Cont'd)

A sorter is shown in the figure that uses air to push paper off belts 10 into bins 15. Sheets are held against a series of belt runs 10 upon entering the sorter by conventional means and are transported by belts 10 in the direction of arrows 5. Air nozzles 18 are positioned in spaces between runs of the belts adjacent the entrance to each bin 15. The nozzles are connected to a rotating air valve 16 by pipes 17. A conventional blower delivers air pressure to valve 16 and the valve rotates to select the proper port for sheet deflection.

This sorter design requires no tray movement, is quieter than sorters presently used and is less complex mechanically thereby requiring less initial cost and fewer service calls than other sorters.
