Abstract

Before the first image of a job is put onto a photoreceptor, it is important to know where on the photoreceptor belt the image will be located. This is necessary in order to optimize the image location and also to avoid putting an image on the belt seam. In the past, this was done by using the belt hole as a synchronizing location, adding unnecessary time. A proposal for synchronizing the belt is to use the location of the previous pitch to determine where the synchronizing location should be. This eliminates the time spent waiting for the belt hole and improves the first copy out time significantly. The concept is applicable to all machine situations: normal job, hard shutdown, and pitch change.
