Abstract

The system disclosed herein relates to the special programming of the copies to be made from different pages of a set of original documents, i. e. a document "job". Such special programming per se is disclosed for example in U. S. Patent 4,248,528 issued February 3, 1981 to R. B. Sahay. This system is used with a document feeder which has two separate inputs, a recirculating tray stack input and an SADH slot, 1. e, a bypass or stream feeding input. The copier console has an operator selectable page programming switch and/or screen display. When this optional special programming feature is selected by the operator, the operator is instructed that the original document sheets are to be fed one page at a time into the SADH or bypass slot of the RDH instead of putting the set of originals into the regular input tray of the recirculating document handler of the copier.

As each document sheet is fed into the input holding area of the SADH slot of the RDH for special page programming, the copier console automatically displays special programming questions for the operator, such as: which paper tray should the copy for that particular sheet be fed from9 whether or not to insert a blank sheet for a cover or chapter ending ahead of that document page in the output copies? and, if so, which tray should it be fed from? whether that page should be copied with a different magnification? or with a different density? or with screening? or with other special copy quality settings for that page? The operator would make such choices by pressing a "YES" button or touch-sensitive screen for the selected special feature. Upon making said selections, a sample copy may be made automatically by then automatically feeding the document with the SADH input feeder onto the platen and copying that document wlth these selected features. Then that document page is ejected out into the SADH document output tray. After each of the document pages has been fed through for special programming and sample copying in this manner, the set of original documents is directed to be removed from the SADH output...
