Abstract

Annotation is a feature associated with a copier wherein supplemental information is added to a copy sheet, e.g., page numbers, key card numbers, place of origin, etc. In a typical annotator system, an optical modulator is used to optically print the information onto a photoreceptor surface. The present method, shown in the figure, envisions using a dot-matrix or alternatively, an ink jet printhead 12 to provide the annotation capability. The prrnthead could be placed anywhere in the paper path and could provide print anywhere on the copy. The printhead movement and activation is governed by a machine controller 14 via a character GeneratorlBufferlDriver Electronics system t6.
