QF highlight some portion of a COPY, such as a letterhead, introductory statement, relevant paragraphs, sentences, or even words

To highlight a selected portion of an otherwise monochromatic COPY with a different color, however, two separate development cycles are required. In the first cycle, all but that to be highlighted is copied out in black. In the second cycle, an appropriately colored toner is used, and this time only the highlighted areas are developed. The end result is a single copy formed by two composite electrostatic images, each independently developed in its own color

The major dificulty in enabling the highlighting feature, however, is in erasing selected portions of the electrostatic amage without disturbing other portions which are in very close proximity. Specifically, some means of erasing a single word without disturbing any other words adjacent to it as required.

That critical function can be provided by an LED Editor With reference to Figure 1, a row of LED chips 10 rests in an array of truncated, cylindrically symmetric parabolic wells 12. The LED'S P/Njunctions coincide with the focal line of the parabolic cylinder The wells could be formed in an injection molded substrate, or they could be realized using a conventional flat PC-board with a "light collector" piece resting on top In either ease, the parabolic walls of each well are metalized and reflectave, such that light emanating from the LED'S is substantially collimated towards the segmented acrylic light guide
