Abstract

Referring to the drawing figure, an integrating cavity 5 €or a copier is shown. Cavity 5, which is formed by suitable extrusions 7, has an illumination lamp 6 centered in the interior of the tubelike cavity 5. To enhance light reflectivity and improve cavity efficiency, the interior wall 8 of cavity 5 are generally painted white.

ILLUMINATOR INTEGRATING CAVITY REMOVABLE REFLECTOR (Cont'd)

Referring to the drawing figure, an integrating cavity 5 &euroor a copier is shown. Cavity 5, which is formed by suitable extrusions 7, has an illumination lamp 6
centered in the interior of the tubelike cavity 5. To enhance light reflectivity and improve cavity efficiency, the interior wall 8 of cavity 5 are generally painted white.

Integrating cavities of the type shown require periodic cleaning to remove accumulated dirt and dust from the interior thereof. However, because of the compact construction typical of present day copiers, and particularly small copiers, access to the integrating cavity for cleaning and servicing purposes is often difficult and time consuming.

It is proposed instead that an insert such as a white sheet 10 of polyester material in rolled form be inserted into the cavity 5 from one end of the cavity. Following insertion, sheet 10 is allowed to expand through the tendency of the sheet to unroll to conform to the shape of the cavity interior wall 8.

By using an insert such as sheet 10, the need and cost to paint the cavity interior wall 8 is avoided At the same time, servicing and cleaning of the cavity...
