Abstract

In an electrophotographic printing machine, the finishing station frequently employs a stitching device for securing copy sheets to one another. Alternatively, it has been found to be desirable to be capable of advantageous to be capable of selecting either the mode of adhesive binding or stapling to form sets of copy sheets. An operator may either choose to bind the copy sheets or to staple the sets. Furthennure, the operator may elect to perform both operations when it is needed to insure that the sheets do not separate from one another. In order to position a adhesive binder cu-resident with a stitcher in the finishing station, the swiper drive of the stitcher must move a registration edge to register the copy sheets for binding. Sheet registration is achieved by the registration edge, The registration edge is motor driven. Sensors control movement of the registration edge so as to insure that the copy sheet is appropriately registered.
