Abstract

It is frequently desirable to bold selected portions of a copy of an original document wherein none of the text of the original document is in bold. This may be achieved by highlighting selected text of the original document and than reproducing the highlighted original document. The highlighted regions will be reproduced in bold on the copy. In the regions not highlighted, line development width is determined by the width of the region where the image voltage is greater than the bias voltage. In the highlighted areas, line development width is also determined by the width of the region where the image voltage is greater than the bias voltage. However, the shape of the voltage/distance profile is different due to locally higher background voltage due to highlighting. The development width is based on a wider line profile resulting in a higher output line width. In this way, the highlighted regions of the original document are reproduced on the copy as bold regions.
