Abstract

Roughening the surface of a pressure roll of a heat and pressure roll fuser improves its antiwrinkle behavior. Permanently roughening of the surface of a pressure roll by controlling the morphology of the roll substrate is disclosed. By spraying metal on the roll substrate or by grit blasting the substrate, an extremely rough surface with tall spire-like formations can be created. The high spires provide a permanent roughness to the fuser roll.

Another method of roughening the fuser roll surface is to mix glass beads into the a PFA (trademark of E. I. Dupont) coating material applied to such fuser rolls prior to spraying the coating onto the roll.
