Proposed Classification

Variable data, including dates, numbering, and other alphanumeric information to be added to copies being created with a copier may be added directly to the copies by providing a printing arrangement external to the xerographic processing system.

In accordance with the present proposal, the copies may be marked with operator determinable variable data by providing an ink jet or spark jet printer for printing alphanumeric information on copies from a copier. The printer may advantageously be comprised of groups of 7 spark jets mounted in a line on a holder with a center to center spacing of about 0.275". The spark jet holder is mounted at an angle to provide the centerlines of adjacent spark jet opening spaced .020" from one another. Additional lines may be provided by adding blocks of 7 spark jets providing the dots required for 5 x 7 matrix printer. The printing control may be provided by a keyboard or other data input source.
