Abstract

In Xerox 9000 family copiers, reclaimed toner is deposited in a bottle for collection from a flexible bellows hose. When the bottle is removed from connection with the hose for disposal of collected toner, the opened hose end spills toner, creating a dirt problem in and around the copier. If the bottle is not removed before it is completely filled, then the toner will back up into the bellows and eventually fill it, creating an extreme toner dump when the bottle is removed.

A slide valve for connection of a reclaimed toner collection bottle to the flexible bellows hose is proposed, which closes the end of the bellows hose unless a toner collection bottle is in place to receive waste toner. Figure 1 demonstrates progressive movement of the toner collection bottle 10 to operational condition. Valve assembly 12 is attached to the end of the bellows hose 14. Threaded adapter ca 18 is attached to bottle 10. Bottle 10 is raised

complementary recess in slide 20, which normally blocks an opening through the valve assembly to bellows hose 14. Bottle 10 is then pushed to the left (in the drawing) with rim 16 fitted into slide 20 (best seen in Figure 3) to simultaneously position the bottle and bring a valve opening in the slide into operational position with the valve assembly. Bottle removal is accomplished in reverse order.
