Abstract

A bottom surface member may be provided on a recirculating document handler (RDH) that detaches and is hinged, so that with the RDH elevated into a non-working position, this bottom surface can be detached and used as a hinged platen cover, pivotable between a platen covering position and platen exposing position to provide for manual positioning and copying of documents.

Separate, auxiliary, platen covers, usually flexible book covers, are known for RDH's, but those are usually complex or awkward and take up considerable extra space.

In contrast, here there is only one, dual mode, platen cover, which is normally latched to the bottom of the large mass RDH unit to function as the RDH platen cover, but is unlatchable therefrom, for independent pivotal movement, when the RDH is up, for functioning as a independently pivotal and lightweight manual cop ing platen cover, for manual document placement

RDH is not desirable. That is this inner document cover can be easily separated and moved manually, to eliminate the repeated liftingflowering of a massive document handler.
