Abstract

A method of manufacturing augers for transporting developer and toner materials is disclosed. A cylinder of polytetrafluoroethylene is prepared by drilling, turning or molding to the desired inside and outside diameters. The resulting cylinder is placed in a turning lathe capable of cutting a thread or a coarse feed. If the auger is to be relatively long, a support is used. The support can be a hole through any material clamped to the carriage with the cutting tool close to the support.

A method of manufacturing augers for transporting developer and toner materials is disclosed. A cylinder of polytetrafluoroethylene is prepared by drilling, turning or molding to the desired inside and outside diameters. The resulting cylinder is placed in a turning lathe capable of cutting a thread or a coarse feed. If the auger is to be relatively long, a support is used. The support can be a hole through any material clamped to the carriage with the cutting tool close to the support.

The threads per inch for an auger blade thickness of 0.050 inch is equal to 1000/50 or 20 threads per inch.

The revolutions are determined by the length of the auger needed, i.e. 37.5 inches of auger needed with a length of 4 turns per inch (4 X 37.5 X 150 = 150 revolutions) length of material is 0.05 X 150 = 7.5 inches of material turned with 20 threads per inch lead. After the turns are formed the material can be stretched to the desired length on the auger shaft and fastened to the shaft with glue or heat.

An auger manufactured by this process can be varied to any lead desired - left, right, progressive or inclusive.
