A latch device which permits the paper module of a xerographic copier to be inserted and locked in place either when the fuser paper module is cammed on or off. The latch can thus operate in two modes:

1) The fuser is cammed off during insertion of the fuser paper module and is not cammed on until the fusedpaper module can be inserted no further, i.e., when the latch/fuser pressure roller shaft 1 abuts the drives plate 2.

2) The fuser is cammed on before the fusedpaper module is inserted, in which case the latch 3 engages cam face 4a of cam 4 under an increasing torsional

spring-loading provided by spring 5 while being rotated by the cam through 850 The spring-loading helps the latch 3 to locate in the pocket 6 on the drives plate 2. The torsion spring 5 thus provides dual functions, in that it allows the latch to run up the cam as well as providing the force at the end of the cams face for inserting the latch into the pocket.

The stop 7a on the stop arm 7 also has dual functions in that it restrains the latch in the correct position, which is torsionally sprung pre-loaded, as well as rotating the latch out of the pocket when the fuser/pressure roller shaft is cammed off.

A circlip 8 is used to attach the latch to the adaptor 9, which allows th...
