Abstract

It often times maybe desirable to add additional features or capabilities to existing electrostatographic printing machine architectures. For example, it may be desirable to add finishing capabilities by way of a stapler to a printing machine already equipped with a sorter for collecting collated sets of prints. The Figures illustrate a set retrieval clamp that may be used to remove collated sets from a sorter bin and deliver them to another location where it may for example be stapled. A set retrieval clamp uses a prime mover to provide an in and out or to and from motion in general and at the same time uses a cam surface to open and close the arms of the clamp and a spring to provide a fairly uniform clamping pressure.

SET RETRIEVAL CLAMP (Cont'd)

The clamp includes a lower jaw 10 connected to a lower arm 12 which is connected to a retracting length 14 to move the jaws back and forth. Also connected to retracting link 14 is upper arm 16 which has upper jaw 18 and a pin 20 is provided on plate 22 connected to upper arm 16 which is movable around cam surface 24 to provide the opening and closing action to the upper and lower jaws 10 and 18. A spring 26 is mounted...
