Abstract

Lubrication of cleaning blades with an added lubricant often improves the life of such blades used in electrophotographic processes. However, addition of lubricant to developer changes the developer electrostatic properties. Non-uniform application of lubricant is also a problem. Uniform application of lubricant is difficult to maintain if the lubricant is applied separately to the imaging surface after the cleaning step.

Lubrication of cleaning blades with an added lubricant often improves the life of such blades used in electrophotographic processes. However, addition of lubricant to developer changes the developer electrostatic properties. Non- uniform application of lubricant is also a problem. Uniform application of lubricant is difficult to maintain if the lubricant is applied separately to the imaging surface after the cleaning step.

It is proposed that cleaner lubricant be applied to the photoreceptor periodically just before the cleaning step. In this manner, the blade itself can meter the quantity of lubricant, maintaining the lubricant in a thin layer or film as required.
