Abstract

The effective dwell time of soft roll fusers is increased by the provision of a three roll fuser configuration wherein the three rolls form two nips through which the copy paper substrates are passed. The configuration shown in the figure may be either two fuser rolls and one pressure roll or two pressure rolls and one fuser roll. In either configuration the first nip applies the heat to the image to ensure that the toner is adhered to the paper while the second nip fuses the image entirely for permanence. The three roll fuser configuration may be useful in high speed applications.
