Document handler output trays of high volume electrophotographic printing machines should be capable of accommodating a wide variety of copy sheet sizes, paper weights and thicknesses, for example, as disclosed in US. Patent 4,469,319. In the case of light weight ( i.e., 13#, 16#, and 20#) original sheet stock, a number of failure modes may be encountered; for example, original sheet stalling and jamming and subsequent trail sheet damage, poor stacking and alignment of documents, and improper and out of order original stacking. These problems are managed by incorporating a set of passive corrugation rolls A and B into a Semi-Automatic Document Handler (SADH) out put area as shown in the figure. The corrugation assembly eliminates the need for costly drive components and allows for documents of varying paper weights to easily pass through and stack without bending or colliding with the trail edge of lead sheets already present in the output tray. The exiting document contains enough inertia from the preceding set of pinch rolls to be driven through the corrugation rolls with very little degradation to the sheet velocity. The co...
