Abstract

In a reprographic system, excessive downtime can be caused when the system is operating in a degraded mode due to a malfunction. If a replacement part is needed, it would be advantageous to put the machine in a mode not allowing the use of the feature that is malfunctioning. To disable the malfunctioning portion of the system, an enable/disable software switch could be implemented which can individually activate or inactivate various features in the system. The Technical Representative would be the only one allowed to enable or disable features using this switch, thus preventing the operator from using the malfunctioning feature and possibly causing any further damage to the system.
