Abstract

Electronic reprographic systems and high volume duplicators typically have a CRT based User Interface (UI) with menu driven selection capabilities. The newer systems, with complex operator options and multilevel screen presentations of machine controls, often make it difficult for the casual user to walk up to such a machine and perform simple tasks.

Ifa user is already familiar with the operation of an earlier product, it would be advantageous for that user to apply their knowledge to a newer machine. Therefore, a casual operator mode on the UI could be implemented. In the casual mode, the walk up user could select from a plurality of available UIs the one that he/she is familiar with from past machines. A graphical replica of that interface would be displayed on the CRT. The user could then perform simple functions on the newer machine using commands he/she is already familiar with from a past machine. The user would be limited to those features and functions common to both the old machine and the new machine.
