Abstract

A method for measuring copy paper sheet velocity and differential velocity in electrophotographic copy machines and printers is disclosed. An adjustable frequency controller is connected to an ink jet or bubble jet print head. The print head forms a series of small ink drop dots on the copy sheet and the distance between drops is detected and measured with a sensor. Sheet velocity is calculated from the distance and drop frequency. Other advantages of the method include: determining sources of sheet misalignment, skew and velocity changes along a paper path.
