Logical components of an Electronic Printing System are often impacted by variations in the time available for image creation and printing. It is necessary to communicate the actual timing information from the controlling component to others that use that information within the system. Timing variations may be caused by line voltage variability or by dynamic changes to mechanical hardware.

The advantage of decisions based on actual time, as opposed to simply using the nominal time, or worst case time, is to maximize output while minimizing the chance for an imaging error. Using the actual time can be implemented as follows: 1) the Image Output Terminal (IOT) monitors the sense of an input that toggles when the photoreceptor has completed one revolution and calculates the revolution time; 2) after ten revolutions, an average calculation time is communicated to the Job Scheduler which in turn calculates a new time of image duration, bases current images on that time, and stores that information for future communications with the Print Service Processor (PSP); and 3) the PSP continually monitors signals from the IOT wherein if the signals vary out of the agreed upon tolerance, the PSP will initiate a system cycledown, request the new timing informatio...
