Abstract

An ultrasonic sheet separation method for use in paper feeder systems of copiers, printers and related equipment is disclosed. An ultrasonic signal generator, for example, a piezo ceramic element, is positioned near the top of a paper feeder stack adjacent to a rigid or flexible stack guide. Ultrasonic signals or pulses issuing from the generator travel through the top of the paper stack producing vibrations which promote sheet separation. The enhanced sheet separation reduces or eliminates paper multifeeds, misfeeds, and sheet feeder shut downs. The sheet separation method enhances the reliability and dependability of paper feeder systems.
