Abstract

An output stacker and dryer combination for use in thermal ink jet (TIJ) printers is disclosed. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the combined stacker-dryer holds freshly printed copy sheets completely separated until suficiently dry before stacking. The stacker-dryer is comprised of multiple movable drying rod supports which receive freshly inked copy sheets. The sheets are individually transported downward and released to a dry sheet stack. The drying rods are cycled back to an initial position for receiving wet sheets in a continous fashion. Advantages of the sheet dryer include: simple and economical mechanicals; compact size; accomodates variable throughput rates; and accomodates variable paper sizes.
