Abstract

A snap height adjustable cam follower having general utility and applicability in electrophotographic printing and copying machines employing duplex paper handling systems is disclosed. The cam follower allows for discrete adjustment while reducing costs of molding, hardware, service tooling, assembly time and possible misadjustment due to human error. The cam follower provides for the additional advantages of: low friction and non-abrading operation; easy and convenient height adjustment for three or more settings; fast event function; self-locking and non-rotating; combining the function of five parts into a single piece part. As shown in the Figure, the example has three height settings or steps. The stepped surfaces on the cap 1 engage the stepped surfaces on the mount 2. The cap contains a molded snap fastening leg that fixes the cap in place vertically. Further, the cap is hexagonally shaped which prevents axial rotation within the mount. Variable height adjustment is achieved by removing the cap from the mount, partially rotating the cap, and reinserting into the mount to re-engage the fastening leg of the cap with the mount. The cap may provisionally be used as a positional pointer.
