Abstract

A combination thermal ink jet (TIJ) output stacker and dryer is disclosed. The combined stacker buffer and dryer holds freshly printed copy sheets completely separated until sufficiently dry before stacking. The stacker-dryer is comprised of an elevator that employs a set of rotating combs that alternately raise and hold a printed sheet separated apart from other printed sheets to avoid smudging or smearing of the freshly printed image as shown in Figures l(end view) and 2 (topview). The combination provides TIJ printed materials with little or no smudging or smearing and improved print quality.
