Abstract

A process for the recovery of N,N'-diphenyl-N, N'-bis( alkylpheny1)-1 , 1- biphenyl-4,4'-diamine from used multilayered photoreceptors is disclosed. The recovery process is comprised of the steps o f immersing the photoreceptor drum or belt in a liquid medium containing a dissolved amine or ammonia to depolymerize a polymeric binder resin, for example, polycarbonate; dissolving the fragmented polycarbonate into the liquid medium effecting spontaneous precipitation of the biphenyl diamines; and separating by filtration and drying the biphenyl diamines.

The recovery process may also be adapted for use in treating used coating solutions and for separation, recovery and disposal of trigonal selenium containing formulations.
