Abstract

The combination of an air compressor and a rigid accumulator tank incorporated into a compact machine take up significant amounts of space. Vibrations caused by air compressor operation, for example in copiers and printing systems, may be damped by rubber shock mounts of varying firmness.

The combination of an air compressor and a rigid accumulator tank incorporated into a compact machine take up significant amounts of space. Vibrations caused by air compressor operation, for example in copiers and printing systems, may be damped by rubber shock mounts of varying firmness.

Proposed is a dampening unit integrating the accumulator tank and the rubber shock mounts. The dampening unit consisting of an expandable rubber bladder bonded between two mounting plates, fastens between the air compressor and the machine frame. The rubber bladder inflates to the desired dampening level while acting as an accumulator tank. Initially the thick walls of the bladder support the compressor until the bladder inflates. Advantages of the unit include, reduced space requirements for machines with built in accumulator tanks and air compressors, and the capacity to vary dampening levels of the air compressor depending on the pressure the rubber bladder is inflated.
