A blade cleaner having multiple contact edges for use in cleaning systems of electrophotographic printing and copying machines is disclosed. As shown in the figure - end and side views, respectively, the cleaning blade 1 has in the example shown three blade cleaning edges 2.

Conventional cleaning blades employ a single flat rubber blade with a single edge as a cleaning member. An improved blade cleaner uses a blade having multiple contact edges, for example, from about 2 to about 6 edges. Advantages of the multiple surface cleaning blade include: reduced blade wear; prolonged blade replacement interval; increased cleaning efficiency; improved cleaning system reliability; and improved copy quality maintained over longer printing cycles. The multiple surface cleaning blade is analogous to the multiple surface blade cleaners used for windshield wipers on automobiles and motorized vehicles.
