Abstract

A blade cleaner having independent multiple contact edges for use in cleaning systems of electrophotographic printing and copying machines is disclosed. A square shaped sectioned cleaning blade assembly that contains a cleaning blade surface at each of four corners is disclosed. As shown in the figures, the cleaning assembly may be constructed, for example, in several different but related configurations.

A blade cleaner having independent multiple contact edges for use in cleaning systems of electrophotographic printing and copying machines is disclosed. A square shaped sectioned cleaning blade assembly that contains a cleaning blade surface at each of four corners is disclosed. As shown in the figures, the cleaning assembly may be constructed, for example, in several different but related configurations.

A rotatable cleaning blade holder 1 as shown in Figure 1 has bonded thereto urethane, or related material, "square cornered" cleaning blades 2. The blades are rotated and fixed into an active cleaning position against a movable and counter rotating photoreceptor element 3 which enables efficient removal of toner and developer particles 4 from the photoreceptor imaging surface. Blade geometries may be, for example, rectangular 5 (Figure 2) or a unitary four cornered member 6 mounted on a rotatable shaft 7 (Figure 3). When a cleaning blade in the assembly begins to wear and cleaning becomes less efficient, the blade assembly is manuallyor automatically, rotated ninety degrees to engage a fresh cleaning blade surface.
