Abstract

It is possible that wrinkles, image smear and deletions can occur in some copier configurations. One situation where this happens is when the leading edge of a copy sheet is carried out of the copier by the feed-out rollers while the trail edge of the copy sheet has not passed the transfer corotron. This condition and the use of gripper bars can result in a condition where the copy sheet suddenly buckles when the leading edge reaches the feed-out rollers. This sudden occurrence of the buckle momentarily pulls the trailing edge of the copy sheet causing smear.

A solution to this problem is to use star wheels on the unfused image side of the copy sheet to hold the copy sheet down and prevent a buckle when the copy sheet engages the feed-out rollers. A ribbed surfaced transport could be added, if desired, to further stiffen the copy sheet through corrugation.
