Abstract

When a copy sheet misfeeds or feeds late within the main feeder of a reprographics copier, a shutdown is initiated in most instances. Since the corresponding document has already been scanned and has quite possibly left the platen glass, it must be retrieved as part of the recovery process.

When a copy sheet misfeeds or feeds late within the main feeder of a reprographics copier, a shutdown is initiated in most instances. Since the corresponding document has already been scanned and has quite possibly left the platen glass, it must be retrieved as part of the recovery process.

Disclosed herein is a shingled buffer transport placed directly beyond the document feeder take away rolls in order to hold each page in the document paper path until a transfer step has occurred. This leads to an easier job recovery during a system shutdown caused by a paper feeder jam.

Accordingly, the present disclosure is directed toward the prefeed capability of a document feeder. The ability of a shingled take away buffer transport to handle overlapped or shingled copy sheets is mandated by system timing. Since the distance from the feeder to the transport is short, a first copy sheet will be in transfer while a third copy sheet is being scanned on a photoreceptor. This requires that a second copy sheet and the third copy sheet be discharged from the feeder. Therefore, the second and third copy sheets may overlap each other, and possibly overlap the first copy sheet.

Construction and operation of the shingled transport is relatively straight forward. Two pinch roll nips are required, eac...
