Abstract

Oiled fuser roll stri ping apparatuses have a tendency to collect oil at the tip of of a copy sheet (not shown) on fuser roll 2 contacts stripping apparatus 4, formed oil droplet 6 transfers to the copy sheet, which in turn creates an unacceptable oil stain on the sheet. Disclosed is a method to reduce the magnitude of formed oil droplet 6 to a size at which it becomes unnoticeable if transferred to a copy sheet.

IMPROVED OILED FUSER ROLL STRIPPING FINGER (Cont'd)

Oiled fuser roll stri ping apparatuses have a tendency to collect oil at the tip of

of a copy sheet (not shown) on fuser roll 2 contacts stripping apparatus 4, formed oil droplet 6 transfers to the copy sheet, which in turn creates an unacceptable oil stain on the sheet. Disclosed is a method to reduce the magnitude of formed oil droplet 6 to a size at which it becomes unnoticeable if transferred to a copy sheet.

Shown in Figure 2 is disclosed stripping finger 10. A narrow slit 12 is added longitudinally near the tip of stripping finger 10, which can be laser cut. Slit 12 provides capillary action to prevent significant accumulation of oil in the form of droplets 14 at the tip of stripping finger 10 by diverting the oil past the tip and back onto fuser roll 16. The slit 12 can be smooth or textured and can include more than one cut. The structure of the slit 12 is similar to slits found in fountain pens, which can be as narrow as a fine crack or as wide as a few millimeters. Thus, by adding a slit to a stripping finger, oil typically accumulated at the tip of a stri ping apparatus is channeled back onto the...
