Abstract

In a copier employing a hard disk as the principal memory source, and with an access port for a floppy or removable disk to enable loading and unloading of data to and from the hard disk, Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) files saved on the floppy disk are machine unique. Since these files must be restored back to the specific copier from which they are taken, the files must be named to permit identification with the unique copier to which the files belong.

It is proposed that the file names of the NVM files that are saved on the floppy disk be created from the copier serial number to which the files belong, using for example the five most significant digits of the serial number with three additional letters corresponding to the NVM node of the file. This will assure that every copier has a unique set of NVM files.
