Abstract

Referring to the drawing Figure, air flow from the cleaner area of a copiedprinter machine may draw toner through a hole 2 in the side plate 1 of the machine xerographic module. Hole 2 is required to allow the photoreceptor cleaner module 5 to be installed and removed from the xerographic module when servicing the machine. Toner passing through hole 2 can contaminate the cam used to operate the photoreceptor cleaner blade, causing the cam to stall due to binding between the cam and the cam follower. The toner can also migrate to the machine fuser, contaminating the internal fuser assembly. It may also pass to the Constant Velocity Transport area of the machine where the toner contaminates the exposure lamp, reducing exposure light output.

To obviate this, a spring loaded cover 4 is provided for blocking hole 2 in side plate 1 at times when the cleaner assembly is not being serviced. Cover 4 is mounted to the cleaner module shaft 6 and biased by spring 8 away from the xerographic module sideplate 1 whenever the cleaner assembly 5 is being installed or removed.
