Abstract

The clock on a copier is used to control not only the copier odoff timing but also use of the copier after hours'. The clock is a standard real-time clock displayed by means of a CRT. Upon installation of the copier, the user programs the clock to control the odoff eriods, with the 'on' time being automatically amended by the copier to allow For warm-up, so that at the set start time the copier is ready for use. At the set 'off time the copier automatically goes into its power-save mode.

The copier can be switched on 'after-hours', i.e. before its next programmed 'on'
time, only by the intending user inserting a numerical 'over-ride' code by way of the core controls. This code is known to only the dedicated operator/decision maker, and is changeable by only hidher using a special routine, which can be changed easily by authorised personnel.

This enables the clock to address each day of the year, and work periods within the day, so as to make unauthorised copying impossible outside normal working hours.
