Abstract

Proposed is a feed roll alignment apparatus for a paper feeder module that is split into two halves, whereby the first half of the module includes a paper transport member having a feed head with at least two feed rolls mounted on feed shafts, and a second half that includes paper trays and retard pads that mate with the feed rolls on the first half when the module is closed for the purpose of feeding paper from one of the selected paper trays.

Proposed is a feed roll alignment apparatus for a paper feeder module that is split into two halves, whereby the first half of the module includes a paper transport member having a feed head with at least two feed rolls mounted on feed shafts, and a second half that includes paper trays and retard pads that mate with the feed rolls on the first half when the module is closed for the purpose of feeding paper from one of the selected paper trays.

The feed roll alignment apparatus provides a feed shaft control means for precisely aligning the feed rolls to the retard pads. The feed shaft control also includes V-blocks for supporting the feed shafts, and a cam member which pivots a selected feed shaft to a corresponding V-block to provide location control.

Three positions for the feed head are used. They are: a neutral position, a tray 2 feed position, and a tray 3 feed position. The feed shaft control 10 shown in the illustration, uses a drawer (not shown) to locate a tray 2 feed shaft 24 and a tray 3 feed shaft 14 to the respective feed positions.
