Abstract

Mixed size document feeding and stacking operations have become a necessary function for the recirculating document handlers used on reprographic machines. Variations in document size, which occur in the feed direction, are handled by downhill tray stacking to register the lead edge of a document. However, variations in document size, which occur perpendicular to the feed direction, are not handled by current recirculating document handler designs.

Mixed size document feeding and stacking operations have become a necessary function for the recirculating document handlers used on reprographic machines. Variations in document size, which occur in the feed direction, are handled by downhill tray stacking to register the lead edge of a document. However, variations in document size, which occur perpendicular to the feed direction, are not handled by current recirculating document handler designs.

Proposed is a method of feeding and stacking, in two directions, mixed size documents. Correspondingly, the two directions comprise a lead edge registration and a side edge registration. The concept works in conjunction with a vacuum feeder.
