Abstract

A method of determining the thermal sensitivity of thermal papers in facsimile applications that use a thermal print head is disclosed. Voltage across a thermal print head is measured while the print head prints a test pattern on the thermal paper. The test pattern consists of a series of square block images printed at different voltages. Optical density of the block patterns is determined and is plotted, manually or electronically, against the voltage values to obtain an optical density saturation curve. The curve is used to compare the thermal sensitivity in thermal paper production lots.
