Abstract

A document handler for electronic copiers or scanners is disclosed that improves document handling productivity by enabling two pass duplex stacking. The disclosed duplex automatic document handler 5 (DADH) shown in Figure 1 includes raster input scanner 7 (EUS), constant velocity transport 8 (CVT) and top feed document handler 10. When operating in simplex mode, document handler 5 stacks original sheets from 1 to N in simplex output tray 12 using path 14. Alternatively, when operating in duplex mode original sheets are first inverted before reaching CVT 8 using gaited upper loop 15 in order that the back side of original sheets are copied first. Once the back side of an original sheet is copied, the original is inverted by feeding it through a second pass of upper loop 15. Subsequently, the original is scanned and output to auxiliary tray 18 in 1 to N order.
