Abstract

As previously disclosed in U. S. Patent No. 4,897,803, directed to a method and apparatus for processing image information, an address designation or token may be applied to each pixel in a scan line of image data. The token, based upon position within the scan line, may be used to identify areas of interest within the image for further application of image processing operations.

As previously disclosed in U. S. Patent No. 4,897,803, directed to a method and apparatus for processing image information, an address designation or token may be applied to each pixel in a scan line of image data. The token, based upon position within the scan line, may be used to identify areas of interest within the image for further application of image processing operations.

The present disclosure is directed to the application of the token-based approach to a color image. The color image may be represented in any commonly known manner (e.g., CMYB, RGB, or HSI) and would, like the patented system, include an address token associated with each pixel of video information. Based upon the information contained in the pixel word (the combination of the color separation information and the address token) image manipulation may be performed on individual pixels or the color separations thereof. Typical operations would include color modification, highlight color addition, or any other logical or arithmetic image processing functions as previously described in U. S. Patent No. 4,897,803.
