Abstract

A modular in-line lift module is proposed. The mechanism is a portable accessory for a free or a live roller, shaft driven conveyor. It is used to adapt workpiece height, so as to make assembly operations more convenient for a station operator. With only a few adjustments, the lifz can be removed and installed at any workstation, on the conveyor line, in approximately 30 minutes.

IN-LINE LIFT MODULE(Cont'd)

A modular in-line lift module is proposed. The mechanism is a portable accessory for a free or a live roller, shaft driven conveyor. It is used to adapt workpiece height, so as to make assembly operations more convenient for a station operator. With only a few adjustments, the lifz can be removed and installed at any workstation, on the conveyor line, in approximately 30 minutes.

As shown the Figure, the lift module consists of two separate components: a lift platform 10, and a scissors lift 20 (shown in the down position). The lift platform 10 further comprises a plurality of rollers 26 mounted to guard rails
28. A multiplicity of rails 22 are attached to a pair of center guard rails 28.

The rails 22 have pneumatic lift balls 24 embedded in them to provide an operator the ability to rotate a workpiece. Quick-connect fittings (not shown) provide a hookup means for the pneumatic lift balls 24. The scissors lift 20 is placed under the conveyor and locked to the base of the lift platform 10.

The lift module eliminates many ergonomic problems and safety concerns. Disability expenses, low rates of production (due to fatigue), and employee dissatisfaction are reduced when the lifting device is in...
