Abstract

An automatic prefeed belt cleaning system for a Duplex Automatic Document Handler (DADH) is proposed. The cleaning system minimizes document feeding problems by maintaining the frictional characteristics of the prefeed belt. In addition to preventing the degradation of frictional characteristics, a contamination problem associated with a retard type prefeed belt is also resolved. Inks and other contaminants normally picked up under pressure from a retard pad or by a sheet separation rubbing engagement are removed, thus preventing them from being smeared onto other documents being separated.

A Duplex Automatic Document Handler 10 is shown in Fig. 1 with a prefeed belt 26 rotating in the direction of arrow 12. A cleaning module 14 is located near and to the rear of the prefeed belt 26.
